Following the commissioning of the Holiday Inn – the niu Pax last year in Building A of the Mizar Gate Office (MGO), NOVUM Hospitality and IHG Hotels & Resorts have now opened the Candlewood Suites Berlin Airport in Building C of the same complex. The two hotel operators jointly lease approximately 12,405 square metres of the total area in Buildings A and C of the MGO, a building complex originally designed as an office property and comprising a total rental area of around 19,200 square metres. The development was carried out by the DIEAG corporate group.

The Mizar Gate Office was constructed according to plans by Blumers Architekten from Berlin and in collaboration with Ed. Züblin AG as the general contractor. Building B of the complex continues to be used as an office property and is fully leased to various tenants, including Molex, e.distherm, Carrier and Züblin. The conversion of Buildings A and C for hotel or apartment operation was based on designs by Ganter Architekten from Bernau near Berlin and DIEfabrik GmbH from Oldenburg. For the tenants of the entire complex, 240 car parking spaces are available, 89 of which are in the underground car park and 151 above ground. The location in Neu-Schönefeld ensures quick accessibility to Berlin city centre and the Berliner Ring thanks to the urban motorway and an expanded public transport connection.

Maik Andrack, Head of Leasing and Head of Business Development at DIEAG, commented on the development: “The decision to convert Buildings A and C of the Mizar Gate Office from office properties to diversified hotel properties enabled a flexible response to the changed demand situation in the vicinity of BER.” He expressed his delight at the second hotel opening in the Mizar Gate Office, which establishes a future-oriented location for office and accommodation offerings in the immediate vicinity of Berlin Brandenburg Airport. Andrack emphasised that the realisation of the first Candlewood Suites new build in Europe in Building C of the MGO, together with NOVUM Hospitality and IHG, underscores the quality and flexibility of the original planning. He thanked all project participants, especially Ed. Züblin AG, for their cooperation.

The Candlewood Suites Berlin Airport, with 186 serviced apartments in Building C, complements the Holiday Inn – the niu Pax, already established in Building A with 158 rooms, to form a dual-brand location. While the Holiday Inn – the niu Pax, as an upper-midscale hotel, is geared towards classic short stays, Candlewood Suites expands the offering with fully equipped serviced apartments for longer stays. This combination provides accommodation options for both short-stay and long-stay guests at one location at BER, which is relevant for business travellers, project employees and digital nomads.

The Candlewood Suites Berlin Airport offers 186 modern studios and one-bedroom apartments, each including a fully equipped kitchen, complimentary Wi-Fi and a workspace. The offering is complemented by accessible apartments, a 24/7 fitness centre, the “Candlewood Cupboard” self-service shop and a guest laundry. This hotel marks a milestone for the brand, as it is the first new build Candlewood Suites hotel in Europe. Previous locations in Europe emerged from existing NOVUM brand acora Living the City properties, whereas the hotel at Berlin-Brandenburg Airport was explicitly developed as a Candlewood Suites.

David Etmenan, Chief Executive Officer & Owner, NOVUM Hospitality, commented: “As one of IHG’s largest franchise partners, we are proud to open the first newly built hotel of the brand in Europe with the Candlewood Suites Berlin Airport. The location directly at BER and its proximity to our Holiday Inn – the niu Pax create the dual-brand offering of short and long-stay accommodation that we had envisioned for this location from the outset.”
