Step Partners Europe is continuing the expansion of its charging infrastructure at hotel locations in Germany. As part of this development, eight new charging points will be installed at the Sheraton Berlin Grand Hotel Esplanade; the Moxy Bochum will receive four additional charging options. These expansions mean that a total of 32 charging points will be available for hotel guests at six properties across Germany in the future.
This expansion is being implemented by the Dutch service provider Pluq, which specialises in destination charging solutions. Pluq is taking full responsibility for the financing, construction, and operation of the charging infrastructure. For Step Partners Europe, the implementation of this infrastructure represents an integral part of the strategic enhancement of the respective locations.
Operational Model and Strategic Importance
Pluq's operator model is characterised by its freedom from capital and operating costs for Step Partners Europe. A central digital portal enables the recording of consumption and utilisation across all locations. This data not only serves operational control but also provides relevant information for the ESG reporting of the companies involved.
Pieter Zijlema, CEO and Co-Founder of Pluq, stated that guest demand for adequate charging infrastructure in hotels is noticeably increasing. This development is transforming charging infrastructure from an optional additional service into an obligatory component of a competitive hotel operation. Pluq takes on full responsibility, from financing and installation to operational management. The company bears the complete operational risk, while the operator participates in revenue through a transparent earnings share.
Andre Guettouche, Partner at Step Partners Europe, emphasised that the ability to charge electric vehicles at the hotel is now a standard expectation for guests. This is a crucial factor in ensuring the competitiveness of a location. Through the cooperation with Pluq, this service can be provided without own investments, with the expansion at Moxy Bochum serving as the next step in this strategy. Pluq continues its growth in Germany within the hospitality, real estate, and healthcare segments.
