Sunrock, a European developer of solar rooftops and integrated clean energy solutions, has commissioned a photovoltaic system at the BMW Group's dynamics centre in Dingolfing, Bavaria. This system, with a capacity of 10.9 MWp, represents the largest PV rooftop system in Bavaria and the fourth largest in Germany. The renewable energy generated will be fully supplied to the BMW Group.
The new system spans a roof area of approximately 100,000 m², which Sunrock leases from the BMW Group. It is designed to produce 10.5 GWh of electricity annually. This energy mathematically corresponds to the annual consumption of almost 5,000 single-person households. The full provision of the generated electricity to the BMW Group supports its strategy for integrating renewable energies at the site.
Expansion of Self-Sufficiency and Sustainable Added Value
Georg Brenninkmeijer, Managing Director at Sunrock Germany, explained that implementing a project of this magnitude requires profound technical expertise, and the company's extensive experience was significantly incorporated into the planning and implementation. He emphasised that the solar power produced will be available to the BMW Group long-term as clean and reliably plannable energy directly on site, creating economic added value for the car manufacturer.
In addition to the facility in Dingolfing, Sunrock has already developed a PV rooftop system at the BMW Group plant in Regensburg with a surface area of 25,000 m² and a capacity of 2.9 MWp. This system generates approximately 2.9 GWh of electricity annually and has been supplying the plant with locally generated solar power since autumn 2025. Sunrock also leased this area from the BMW Group.
