In Stuttgart-Bad Cannstatt, Stuttgarter Wohnungs- und Siedlungsgesellschaft (SWSG) has laid the foundation stone for a new-build project in plot Q5 of Neckarpark. Representatives from state politics, local government and the regional housing sector attended the gathering to mark the official start of construction for the ensemble.
The development comprises three buildings with a total residential space of around 6,875 square metres. A total of 103 publicly subsidised rental flats will be created, with layouts ranging from compact one-room to spacious five-room flats. The concept caters to people at different stages of life and aims to provide needs-based housing for single people, couples, senior citizens and, in particular, families.
Mixed use and spatial layout
The three buildings are arranged around a shared courtyard designed to serve as a central meeting place and open area for the ensemble. To integrate residential living with commercial functions, five commercial units with a combined usable floor space of around 856 square metres are being built on the ground floor. An underground car park providing 46 parking spaces completes the Neckarpark development scheme.

Voices from politics and executive management
Samir M. Sidgi, Managing Director of SWSG, stated on site that affordable housing is the central social issue of the present day. According to him, the 103 subsidised flats will be structurally completed in just over a year and will remain permanently rent-controlled. Theresa Schopper, Minister for Regional Development and Housing of the State of Baden-Württemberg, paid tribute to SWSG's commitment and described the company as a vital driving force for affordable housing construction in Stuttgart.
Peter Pätzold, Stuttgart's Deputy Mayor for Urban Development, Housing and Environment, highlighted the dynamic momentum in the Neckarpark district in his address. Affordable housing must be an integral part of the new urban area. Complete delivery of the mixed-use residential ensemble in plot Q5 is scheduled for the end of 2027.
