Housing company Vonovia is continuing its extensive investments in the modernisation of its properties in Nuremberg's north-eastern city centre. Buildings at Pilotystraße 24 and 26 are currently undergoing energy efficiency upgrades, for which a budget of approximately 2.8 million Euros has been allocated for the coming months.

These measures follow work that began in March in the neighbouring properties at Kaulbachstraße 7 to 11 and Pilotystraße 28. All aforementioned addresses are part of the company's portfolio. In total, investments across all construction phases amount to over 5.5 million Euros, which are being channelled into the fabric and energy efficiency of the residential buildings.

Focus on Energy Efficiency and Structural Preservation

The primary goals of the works are significant energy improvements to the houses in the Gärten in der Veste district. This includes the installation of thermal insulation on the facades and the replacement of windows with modern, thermally insulated PVC windows in the stairwells and individual residential units. Furthermore, a hydraulic balance of the heating systems will be carried out to ensure uniform and efficient heat distribution throughout the building. These steps contribute to a long-term reduction in tenants' energy consumption.

Alongside the energy efficiency measures, Vonovia is undertaking comprehensive maintenance work that contributes to the attractiveness of the housing estates. This includes the renovation of balconies and external basement stairs. Further renewals encompass roller shutters, letterboxes, and the entire external lighting of the estates. These measures serve to ensure a well-maintained appearance and the functionality of the residential buildings.

Robert Stellmach, Regional Director Bavaria at Vonovia, commented on the investments. He emphasised that improving the energy efficiency of the Nuremberg housing estates benefits both the environment and, directly, the tenants. Tenants would directly profit from optimised insulation and modern technology, leading to reduced energy consumption. Vinzent Schneider, Regional Director Northern Bavaria at Vonovia, highlighted that the total investment of over 5.5 million Euros in the modernisation of the housing estate at Kaulbach- and Pilotystraße represents a clear commitment to enhanced living comfort and climate protection. He also reaffirmed the company's dedication to the Nuremberg location.

Background and Impact

The building sector is responsible for a substantial share of national CO2 emissions. The implemented energy improvements help to significantly reduce heating energy demand. This not only protects the climate but can also contribute to stabilising ancillary costs for tenants.

During the construction phase, temporary inconveniences due to noise, dust, or scaffolding are possible. Affected tenants will receive financial compensation for this after the completion of the respective measure. Vonovia acts as one of the largest landlords in Nuremberg, managing a portfolio of 315 buildings with a total of 2,022 flats there.
