The consultancy Ypsilon Group, known for its expertise in the Financial Services, Real Estate, and Private Equity sectors, has announced the establishment of a US Tax Desk. The aim of this initiative is to provide comprehensive support to German and US clients, particularly from the Private Equity and Venture Capital sectors, with their cross-border ventures.

The management and development of the new US Tax Desk will be overseen by Nina Schmidt, Managing Director of the Ypsilon Group. Ms Schmidt, who is qualified as a tax advisor and specialist consultant for international tax law, will work at the US law firm Clark Schaefer Hackett (CSH) in Cincinnati, Ohio, for one year starting 1st July 2026. This stay is intended to deepen her knowledge of US tax law at its source.

Strategic Expansion of Tax Advisory Services for Cross-Border Investments

In the Venture Capital and Private Equity market, cross-border structures with a US connection are widespread, yet they present particular complexity due to divergent legal and tax regimes. Nina Schmidt explained that the Ypsilon Group has been assisting with inbound investments from the US to Germany for many years. The in-depth US tax expertise being built up with the new desk will enable even more targeted support for outbound investments from Germany to the US starting 1st July 2026. German investors and funds with US engagements, as well as US companies and fund vehicles with German shareholders, will benefit from this. Numerous enquiries in this segment underscore the demand.

Ms Schmidt emphasised that for optimal client support, not only sound specialist knowledge of US tax law is crucial, but also practical experience in dealing with US tax authorities and a deep understanding of American business culture.

Cooperation with Clark Schaefer Hackett within the International Network

The collaboration with Clark Schaefer Hackett (CSH) is of central importance here. CSH, founded in 1938 and ranking among the top 70 firms in the US, brings the full breadth of US tax law to the cooperation. With over 550 employees across ten locations, including Ohio, Kentucky, and Michigan, CSH offers advisory services beyond tax law in areas such as audit, advisory, and outsourcing.

Both the Ypsilon Group and CSH are members of the international network AGN International. This connection ensures a seamless and coordinated advisory pathway between Germany and the United States, which significantly enhances the efficiency and quality of client support for complex cross-border transactions.
