The BFW Regional Association Berlin/Brandenburg participated in the leadership meeting of the "Alliance for Housing in Brandenburg" in Potsdam on 2 October 2026. During this meeting, an updated information and action paper was adopted together with Building Minister Robert Crumbach and other industry representatives. The overarching goal of this initiative is to drive the creation of needs-based housing. This is to be achieved through targeted debureaucratisation, a practical funding policy, and cooperative spatial planning, also taking into account the current economic conditions.
While housing policy discussions in other regions are often characterised by confrontational approaches, Brandenburg is establishing a cooperative approach. These proven partnerships serve as a model for effective collaboration in the real estate sector. The partners of the "Alliance for Housing" met to continue this "Brandenburg Way" and to adopt the revised information and action paper together with the responsible ministry and the real estate industry.
Willingness to Invest Despite Difficult Conditions
Despite persistently challenging conditions, particularly high construction and financing costs, the private real estate industry in Brandenburg remains willing to invest. Evidence of this is the growth of the five-year pipeline of BFW member companies. This has increased by almost 18 percent in the last year and now comprises approximately 7,430 planned residential units. These figures underscore the companies' confidence in the Brandenburg housing market and their readiness to contribute to meeting housing demand.
To ensure the realisation of these projects, the BFW calls for a consistent implementation of the new building regulations at municipal level. Rapid and cost-efficient construction methods are crucial for the successful implementation of planned projects. Frederik Schneider, Deputy Managing Director of the BFW Regional Association Berlin/Brandenburg, emphasised the importance of partnership-based cooperation within the alliance, which sends a clear signal for collaboration instead of confrontation.
Demands for Project Implementation and Market Relief
BFW member companies have an extensive project pipeline and are ready to translate these plans into real housing. However, specific framework conditions are required for this. Mr Schneider underlined the necessity of consistent application of building regulations in municipalities. Furthermore, he called for funding conditions that keep pace with current interest rate and construction cost developments. Increased flexibility in site development is also important. Only through the integrated development of workplaces, housing, and infrastructure, coordinated both spatially and temporally, can sustainable relief for the housing market be achieved.
