The holding company for the professional basketball teams Brooklyn Nets and New York Liberty, Brooklyn Sports & Entertainment, has acquired three new training facilities in Brooklyn. The addresses concerned are 100 Dobbin Street in Greenpoint, 53 Knickerbocker Avenue in Bushwick, and 483 Baltic Street in Gowanus. The seller was The Post BK, a network of indoor sports venues in Brooklyn.
The purchase price was not publicly disclosed. However, it was confirmed that the properties were paid for entirely in cash. The three buildings will continue to be operated and managed by The Post BK but belong to different entities.
Expansion for Youth Programmes
All three newly acquired facilities are set to open their doors in the coming year and will be exclusively dedicated to the Nets' and New York Liberty's youth programmes. Marissa Shorenstein, Chief Operating Officer of Brooklyn Sports & Entertainment, stated that this expansion reflects a long-term commitment to the community. She emphasised the belief that every young person should have the opportunity to participate, learn, and develop through sport.
The deal was brokered by Dan O’Brien, David Behin, Caroline Hodes, and Loren Valla of Newmark. Spokespersons for the Nets and The Post BK did not immediately respond to requests for comment, while Newmark declined to comment.
Properties and Future Plans
The properties comprise single-storey warehouses: 100 Dobbin Street measures 15,000 square feet, 53 Knickerbocker Avenue spans approximately 20,300 square feet, and 483 Baltic Street covers 5,000 square feet. The original use of these properties was industrial before they were converted into basketball rental courts.
It remains unclear what plans The Post BK will pursue following this sale. The three properties divested represented the company's entire portfolio. An internal source described the acquisition of the facilities as a process akin to an M&A transaction, given that The Post BK's entire portfolio was taken over.
