The company Insta360, based in China, has established itself in the US market for the first time with its new location in Times Square. As a leading brand for 360-degree cameras and a direct competitor to the well-known brand GoPro, Insta360's products have already proven themselves in diverse areas, from underwater research to documenting sustainable space adventures.
The opening of the new store in Times Square is expected in August or September. Immersive demo zones, workshops led by creatives, on-site product training, and marketing events are planned there. Louis Franco and Joseph Isa of Isa Realty Group represented the tenant in this transaction, while Ross Berkowitz of Newmark advised the building owner, SL Green Realty.
Strategic Importance of the Location
The agreed rent for the two-year contract was 1,000 US dollars per square foot. The short contract term was at the request of SL Green. The company wishes to keep its options open for the property, which was originally intended to be converted into a casino after Paramount's office lease expired. SL Green is also still considering converting the property between West 44th and West 45th Street into a hotel, entertainment centre, and observation deck.
Louis Franco commented that they approached Insta360 with the idea of opening a flagship store in Times Square, as there was no better retail location worldwide to make a statement for a US launch. He emphasised that Insta360 is an innovative global brand, and 1515 Broadway offers the visibility, dynamism, and footfall that only Times Square can provide.
Insta360 had previously held successful pop-up events for its X camera series in New York, including at Grand Central Terminal. A spokesperson for the camera company explained that the new, permanent presence in Times Square would provide the opportunity to deepen the connections made through these pop-ups and serve as a hub for the city's creative community.
Times Square's Appeal to Asian Brands
Asian brands are increasingly focusing on Times Square, attracted by its global tourism, impressive video billboards, and late opening hours, which are particularly suited to visitors from other time zones. The Isa Realty Group had previously represented Swarovski in a sublease at 1565 Broadway to Heytea Lab, known for its “cheese” tea.
