HOCHTIEF has agreed to acquire Autmatec, a German specialist company in the field of high and extra-high voltage overhead power lines. This transaction represents a strategic step to expand its presence in markets benefiting from long-term investment trends, particularly the expansion of energy infrastructure and the modernisation of power grids. Founded in 1997, Autmatec is headquartered in Walldorf and offers comprehensive services across the entire value chain for overhead power lines. The company serves large grid operators and energy providers and achieved a turnover of approximately EUR 50 million in 2026 with around 80 highly qualified specialists.

The acquisition provides HOCHTIEF with direct access to specialist expertise, existing customer relationships and necessary certifications in one of Europe's fastest-growing infrastructure markets. HOCHTIEF's position in the German market for overhead power line construction will be strengthened, a sector benefiting from increasing investments in electrification, the integration of renewable energies and ensuring energy security. The long-term investment programmes of European grid operators ensure continuously high demand for expertise in transmission infrastructure.

Strategic Expansion of Competencies

Autmatec complements the competencies of HOCHTIEF Infrastructure and HOCHTIEF Engineering by extending existing strengths in engineering services, infrastructure construction and project management with specific expertise in overhead power line construction. This merger enables the companies to provide their customers with an integrated offering in engineering, procurement and construction management across the entire lifecycle of transmission infrastructure.

Juan Santamaría, CEO of HOCHTIEF, stated that the acquisition of Autmatec aligns with the strategy to invest in infrastructure markets with sustainable growth potential. He emphasised that energy infrastructure is one of the most important investment priorities today, and modern and resilient power grids play a key role in the transformation. Peter Hingott, CEO of HOCHTIEF Infrastructure, added that Autmatec brings expertise, close customer relationships and qualified personnel. He further explained that combining Autmatec's experience in overhead power line construction with HOCHTIEF's technical expertise and execution capability will enable them to support customers in expanding and modernising critical energy infrastructure in Germany and Europe.

Commitment to the German Market and Growth Prospects

Autmatec's existing management team will continue to lead the company and support its growth as part of the HOCHTIEF Group. This transaction underscores HOCHTIEF's commitment to the German market, where its order backlog has doubled over the past four years. At the same time, it strengthens the Group's position to participate in investments from the EUR 500 billion infrastructure fund. As part of HOCHTIEF, Autmatec will benefit from access to comprehensive resources, a broader customer base and diverse project experience. The merger creates the conditions for realising larger projects, expanding the service offering and further strengthening the Group's position in the energy infrastructure sector. The transaction is subject to approval by the Federal Cartel Office.
