Cocoon Hotels, a sustainable lifestyle hotel brand from Munich, is continuing its expansion strategy in Austria. The renowned Viennese Boutiquehotel Stadthalle, acquired in September 2025, will be integrated into the brand architecture under the name “Cocoon Wien Westbahnhof”. This rebranding includes the implementation of the group’s smart digital processes and is a precursor to a comprehensive investment and renovation project anticipated for 2027.
Since the acquisition, the entire hotel infrastructure has undergone digitalisation and modernisation. Connection to the Cocoon Group’s systems enables smooth hotel operations. Digital registration forms, informative pre-stay emails, and an accelerated self-check-in are designed to ensure an efficient stay for guests from their arrival.
Location-specific Design and Sustainable Focus
The design concept of each Cocoon Hotel is closely linked to its respective location. Architecture, interior design, and the conceptual orientation adapt local peculiarities and translate them into a distinctive stylistic language. A symbolic butterfly patron shapes the design and atmosphere of each establishment. For the Cocoon Wien Westbahnhof, the Lesser Purple Emperor butterfly was chosen, whose shimmering colour nuances will be decisive for the future design and refurbishment of the rooms. The focus will be on recycling and upcycling processes.
Johannes Eckelmann, founder of Cocoon Hotels, stated that the Boutiquehotel Stadthalle, as the world's first SDG city hotel, perfectly matches the sustainable philosophy of Cocoon Hotels. He emphasised the intention to preserve the ecological DNA of the establishment while further developing its design and atmosphere. He added that, analogous to all other properties in the group, the specific characteristics of the city and a particular butterfly patron would be integrated into the design.
Facilities and Location of Cocoon Wien Westbahnhof
The hotel has 80 rooms, 42 of which are located in the historic turn-of-the-century building, and 38 modern rooms, including three rooftop terrace suites, are housed in the passive house extension. Green facades, inner courtyards, and a lavender roof where honey is produced contribute to the urban oasis atmosphere. The location of the Cocoon Wien Westbahnhof allows for walking distance to the Wiener Stadthalle and quick access to Vienna city centre and Schönbrunn Palace. Hotel operations will continue without restriction until the renovation work begins in 2027.
