A large lakeside estate in the Ozarks, the construction of which was once initiated by former MLB pitcher Cole Hamels, is coming up for auction. The starting bid for the auction is US$2.9 million. Hamels began building the sprawling property on Table Rock Lake approximately ten years ago. Before construction was completed, he donated the estate as his plans for the building had changed. The unfinished property, which spans 36,000 square feet across 104 acres, will be auctioned online on 24th September. The future buyer will be responsible for completing the residence.
The former Cole Hamels estate in the Ozarks is accessible via a guarded driveway that winds through tall trees. Upon entering the property, the driveway curves towards the main house before expanding into a spacious forecourt along the side of the house. The facade of the house is constructed of brick and stone, enveloping a long row of garages and creating a generous service and parking area shielded from the main entrance.
Features and Amenities
Inside, large arched doorways connect the main rooms. The commercial steel frame of the house provides a solid structure before the final decorative layers are applied. The main floor's layout opens into rooms that, due to their spaciousness, are excellently suited for living or entertaining areas. One of the clearly defined areas appears to be intended as a family room, featuring double-height ceilings and a built-in media wall. This room is opposite the entrance and boasts abundant natural light, as well as outdoor access.
Another nearby living area is designed around a fireplace, positioned between two tall rows of windows. This room is conceived for a more intimate atmosphere, making it ideal as a library, cosy media room, or games room. Also on the main level, one of the master suites is taking shape. Its generous floor area allows for the creation of separate sleeping and lounge areas. Beyond the bedroom, several openings lead to future dressing areas and wardrobes, with the en-suite bathroom forming another essential component of the layout.
Entertainment and Outdoor Areas
The unfinished lower ground floor offers another level for living and entertainment purposes, with tall French doors leading outside. A particularly noteworthy area is the sunken lounge with a curved bay window. While large sections of the basement are still awaiting completion, the home cinema is largely finished. Here, tiered rows of oversized reclining seats are arranged in front of a large projection screen, flanked by blue geometric acoustic panels on the side walls for sound optimisation.
In addition to the interiors, the estate's external facilities include several significant recreational and entertainment areas that extend behind the house towards Table Rock Lake. Directly adjacent to the house is a covered outdoor lounge with exposed brick walls, timber panelled ceilings, and a built-in stone fireplace. The open area provides ample space for future seating or dining furniture, while skylights ensure additional brightness during the day. Further back in the garden, there is a pool with beach entry and an infinity edge, offering views of the lake.
A separate part of the property has been transformed into a private park. Slides, climbing frames, swings, seesaws, and benches are distributed across the open lawn, surrounded by tall trees. Away from the main residence, an oversized, detached garage offers additional space for RVs, boats, recreational vehicles, and other equipment. Parts of Cole Hamels' original vision are still discernible throughout the estate, from its enormous size to the cinema and lake-oriented pool, as well as the family-friendly areas that have already taken shape. A future buyer would have the flexibility to customise the remaining rooms to their own lifestyle and design aesthetic. With this freedom, the 104 acres, the views of Table Rock Lake, and ample space for entertainment, this estate presents a rare opportunity to complete an already unique private domain.
