Construction has begun for a new Premier Inn Hotel in Hamburg-St. Georg. The project is being realised by a joint venture between Reiß & Co. Gruppe and PEG – Projektentwicklungsgesellschaft Hamburg mbH. The plan is to erect the eighth Premier Inn location in the Hanseatic city on a 3,800 square metre plot at Adenauerallee 21-25, near the main railway station. Completion is scheduled for mid-2028.
A long-term lease agreement was previously signed with the future operator Premier Inn for the project. The new building encompasses a total area of approximately 10,000 square metres and will accommodate 296 rooms. The project development is based on designs by the architectural firm RKW Architekten. Köster GmbH construction company has been commissioned as the general contractor for the construction work.
Significance for the hotel market and timeline
Christian Marquardt, Managing Director of Projekt Hamburg Adenauerallee GmbH, highlighted the significance of the construction start as a key milestone. He emphasised that securing Premier Inn as an international hotel brand and the long-term collaboration send a clear signal regarding the attractiveness of Hamburg and its hotel market. The financing of the project is secured by Bayern LB. The ground-breaking ceremony is scheduled for autumn 2026.
From the operator's perspective, representatives expressed positive views on the location. Chris-Norman Sauer, Managing Director Germany & Austria at Premier Inn, highlighted that business travellers and city tourists alike will benefit from the new hotel offering and its excellent transport links. He considers the Hamburg hotel market to be strong and sees great growth potential for the Premier Inn brand in the region.
With 74 operational hotels in key locations, Premier Inn is one of the largest hotel operators in the budget segment in Germany. Internationally, the group is also represented in Vienna with one hotel. For the current financial year, the brand plans to open twelve more properties.
