Die Bayerische introduces the "MehrZins Konto" (MoreInterest Account), an investment option intended as an alternative to traditional instant access and fixed-term deposit accounts. This offer is characterised by an interest rate guaranteed until the end of 2027, which implies a distinct positioning in the current market. This allows investors to hold capital flexibly without having to commit immediately to a long-term investment.
The terms and conditions of the MehrZins Konto provide for tiered interest rates, reaching their maximum of up to 3.0 percent per annum by 1 November 2026. These interest rates are fixed until 31 December 2027, with no capital commitment required for the entire period. The product is based on a capitalisation contract from Die Bayerische's life insurance company.
Structure and Flexibility of the Investment
For investors holding larger liquid assets for which no final investment decision has yet been made, the MehrZins Konto offers an interest-bearing interim solution. Such situations can arise, for example, after receiving an inheritance, severance pay, or the payout of a life insurance policy. Customers are thus given time to make their decisions, for instance regarding property investments or retirement provisions, while their capital generates returns.
Withdrawals are possible with a ten-day notice period to the end of the month, including for the entire balance. Martin Gräfer, Board Member of Die Bayerische, stated that savers should not be forced to periodically switch providers to receive adequate interest. He emphasised that the effort of changing providers should be minimised to offer investors a stable option.
Terms and Tiered Rates
The MehrZins Konto can be used from an investment amount of 5,000 EUR. The interest rates are tiered as follows:
- —From 5,000 EUR: 2.75 percent per annum
- —From 20,000 EUR: 2.90 percent per annum
- —From 50,000 EUR: 3.0 percent per annum
The maximum investment sum is limited to 250,000 EUR. Deposits earn interest from the first day of the following month, and interest is credited at the end of the year. Account management fees are not charged, and a total of four deposits or withdrawals per calendar year are free of charge.
