From September, the DIRKS Group will commence the further development of a contiguous logistics and industrial park in the seaport city of Emden. The site is to be put to new use and occupancy. The DIRKS Group now has a total area of 90,000 square metres of industrial-standard hall space there, which features optimal infrastructure for the development and establishment of both logistics and industrial projects.
The development focuses on solutions for the consumer goods industry and retail, for production and supply, as well as maintenance. The contract logistics provider DIRKS contributes specific expertise in the areas of distribution and e-commerce solutions, logistical production supply including component manufacturing, and military logistics with material management and maintenance, to these projects.
Infrastructure and area potential
The logistics and industrial park is characterised by advantageous infrastructure connections: it features a freight station with a direct DB connection. Its location in close proximity to the seaport, the A31 motorway, and the Aviation Park North Sea (airfield EDWE) underscores the transport-related significance of the site. For future growth, further areas are available for development on the overall 100-hectare site. The adjacent Volkswagen plant will continue to be supplied from the north-eastern part of the park.
The expansion of the logistics areas for the DIRKS Group was realised through an agreement with the City of Emden. The contract logistics provider acquired the areas from the City of Emden with the aim of specifically developing them further and assigning them to new logistical and industrial uses. The availability of these areas results from the transformation within the automotive industry. The DIRKS Group has been active on the site since 2005. Over the past ten years, approximately EUR 50 million has been invested in modern production facilities and logistics systems for component manufacturing and logistical supply processes.
