Familienheim Rhein-Neckar eG (FHM) is pressing ahead with its plans for the redevelopment of the residential quarter on Otto-Häusler-Straße / Wichernstraße in Ladenburg. A significant milestone was reached on 20 May with the unanimous decision by the municipal council on the development plan. The subsequent publication of the development plan took place on 19 June 2026, thereby formally establishing the planning prerequisites for the project.
The project envisages the replacement of existing buildings with new constructions that meet current structural standards and energy requirements. Within the framework of this development, a total of 76 new residential units will be created. A prominent aspect of this construction project is the focus on social housing, with at least 25 per cent of the new homes designated as publicly funded housing.
The current residential complex comprises 57 flats. Ten of these units are still occupied. Familienheim Rhein-Neckar maintains intensive communication with these tenants to coordinate the next steps and individual solutions. The aim is a smooth implementation of the project, taking into account the needs of the existing tenants.
Familienheim Rhein-Neckar is now preparing to submit the building application. The goal is to obtain planning permission before the end of this year. Subsequently, applications for funding for the publicly funded housing units are planned. Prof. Dr. Thomas Glatte, Chairman of the Board of FHM, commented on the project: The unanimous decision of the municipal council is an important step for the future of the location. He thanked the City of Ladenburg, the municipal council, and all involved parties for their constructive cooperation and support. He added that this creates the conditions for urgently needed living space and contributes to the sustainable development of the city.
This construction project, which creates additional and affordable living space, will strengthen urban development in Ladenburg in the long term.
