The realisation of the “Kulturhaus 21” project began with the official ground-breaking ceremony in Pasing-Obermenzing, a district of Munich. The venture envisages the creation of a new cultural meeting place that will offer a variety of usage options and complement the urban infrastructure of the district.

Attendees at the inaugural event included Mayor Mona Fuchs, Cultural Officer Marek Wiechers, Edwin Grodeke, Head of the Municipal Department, and Christian Müller, Managing Director of Münchner Wohnen, the implementing company. BA Chairman Frieder Vogelsgesang was also present. The aforementioned individuals emphasised the project's significance for the district and the city of Munich.

Concept and Construction

Architect Axel Frühauf from meck architekten GmbH presented the plans during the event. The architectural design of the building is conceived to reflect Pasing's industrial history. These designs will be publicly exhibited in the Pasing Arcaden over the next two weeks to provide citizens with insights into the future Kulturhaus.

From 2028, “Kulturhaus 21” will be operated by Pasinger Fabrik GmbH, a well-known entity long established in the neighbourhood. The house is intended to serve as a low-threshold access point for culture and civic engagement, including through use by associations and in cooperation with local district cultural stakeholders. A fundamental expansion of use for social needs is being considered.

Planned Spatial Structures and Impact

The concept of the Kulturhaus includes various functional areas designed to enable a wide range of activities. The spatial programme is geared towards supporting both cultural events and communal initiatives, thereby fostering community life in Pasing-Obermenzing and providing new impetus. The structural design of the building allows for flexible use to meet different requirements and ensure long-term relevance.

  • A large event hall for various cultural performances.
  • Group and music practice rooms to enable rehearsals and workshops.
  • A fully equipped kitchen for catering at events and meetings.
  • A versatile foyer serving as a central meeting point and exhibition space.
