The foundation stone has been laid for a senior citizens' residence in Bremen-Grohn, initiating the official construction phase of the project. Developer Cureus, specialising in care properties, is realising the project, which is scheduled to open in early 2028. The compassio Group will assume operational management of the facility upon completion.
Kevin Lleshi, Project Manager at Cureus, reported that the earthworks on the formerly commercial site in northern Bremen are in their final phase after approximately two months of construction. Laying of the base slab can therefore begin. He expressed optimism about being able to hand over the senior citizens' residence to operating partner compassio on schedule and in an operational condition.
The construction project is being developed according to Cureus' system approach in a T-shaped design on a plot of approximately 3,600 square metres in the Vegesack-Grohn district. The gross floor area will be approximately 5,360 square metres. Sustainable planning according to the national Quality Seal for Sustainable Buildings (QNG) as an energy-optimised KfW Efficiency House (KNN-WG55 programme) is being implemented. The ecological operation of the building will be supported by a photovoltaic system on the flat roof and a heat pump. The extensively greened roof areas contribute to rainwater retention. The facade design is in light grey tones, complemented by floor-to-ceiling windows.
Concept and Location
The future senior citizens' residence will comprise 95 care places in high-quality single rooms, 51 of which will be wheelchair-accessible. Each room will have its own bathroom and connections for telephone, internet, and television. In addition to full inpatient care, short-term care services are also planned. The concept integrates clearly designed living areas and spacious common areas to foster interaction. Facilities include a restaurant with a sun terrace, therapy and event rooms, and modern living quarters. The outdoor area will enhance the quality of outdoor living with seating, circular paths, quiet zones, and an edible garden. Johannes Knake, Managing Director (CPO) of the compassio Group, emphasised the creation of a modern and sustainable home that combines high-quality care with an attractive living environment.
The location in Bremen-Grohn is characterised by its combination of residential amenities, nature, and shopping opportunities. Good public transport connections are provided by its proximity to Bremen-Vegesack station and surrounding bus stops. Sagerstraße as the main shopping street, the Vegesack City Park on the Weser riverbank, as well as local supply facilities, healthcare, cultural, and social amenities are in the immediate vicinity. This central location offers short distances and good accessibility for residents, visitors, and employees.
Economic Aspects and Labour Market
The new facility will create approximately 80 jobs in the fields of care, support, administration, and service. Julia Glöggler, Ramp-Up Manager at the compassio Group, explained that the early recruitment of the team will begin during the construction phase to ensure professional care for future residents. Interested parties can find information about career opportunities on compassio's career portal and submit unsolicited applications to the headquarters in Ulm.
