Hamburg Commercial Bank AG (HCOB) has participated as an arranger and lender in the refinancing of Liquin. Liquin represents a significant platform for tank storage and associated infrastructure in the chemicals and biofuels sector in the Netherlands. The company is an investment of Infracapital Partners IV, a fund focused on essential assets in the European mid-market. This transaction underscores the role of high-quality infrastructure assets for the European economy and lenders' confidence in their strategic importance.
Liquin operates a portfolio of three tank terminals strategically located in the Amsterdam-Rotterdam-Antwerp (ARA) region. These sites offer a storage capacity of approximately 1.4 million cubic metres. The terminals are located particularly in the Port of Rotterdam, a leading refinery cluster in Europe. They provide essential storage and logistics infrastructure for a wide range of products, utilising comprehensive multimodal connections.
The facilities boast infrastructure for sea and inland vessels, as well as connections to pipelines, road, and rail. This integrates them as a critical component into European supply chains. Liquin was acquired by Infracapital in 2023 and is geared towards meeting evolving market demands. These include storage requirements for new energy products, sustainable raw materials, and circular value chains.
Strategic Importance and Growth Impetus
The long-term refinancing now completed serves to support Liquin's ongoing operations, enable investments, and realise the company's strategic growth objectives. Marco Schweer, Executive Director Infrastructure & Energy Finance at Hamburg Commercial Bank, expressed his satisfaction with the successful refinancing of Liquin's credit facilities. He emphasised the continuation of the long-standing business relationship with both the company and the investor Infracapital. Schweer highlighted that Liquin has established itself as a leading storage platform in the strategically important ARA region thanks to its high-quality infrastructure assets and long-standing customer relationships.
Hans Lötzer, Head of Project Finance at HCOB, stressed that infrastructure financing is core to the bank's business. He expressed pleasure at the opportunity to further strengthen the long-term business relationship through this transaction and to promote Liquin's growth objectives. Adam Spencer, Director at Infracapital, described the refinancing as an important milestone for Liquin, reflecting the progress made since its acquisition in 2023. He emphasised the focus on creating the conditions for sustainable, long-term growth for Liquin, which this financing solution provides.
Linda Kraakman, Finance Director at Liquin, noted that with the new financing structure, the company is well-positioned to invest in its future, accelerate growth, and provide additional value to customers. She thanked the financing partners, including the expert team at Hamburg Commercial Bank, for the trustful cooperation throughout the process.
