A topping-out ceremony was held in Hamburg-Farmsen for a housing development project by SAGA Unternehmensgruppe, being realised by Richard Ditting GmbH & Co. KG. The construction work includes 75 publicly subsidised rental flats, which Richard Ditting GmbH & Co. KG is implementing for SAGA as two new buildings on Berner Heerweg and Berner Au. This initiative is part of efforts to ease Hamburg's strained housing market and provide affordable living space.

In addition to the residential units, a children's day-care centre and a commercial unit are being built. The total gross floor area at the corner of Berner Heerweg / Neusurenland amounts to approximately 9,000 square metres. The two buildings, which have three and eight upper storeys respectively, were designed to the KfW-40 standard, ensuring high energy efficiency. The roof areas will be greened, and the two underground car parks will provide space for 53 parking spaces. Ten additional parking spaces will be created above ground.

Commitment to affordable housing and project timeline

Ole Klünder, Head of Land and Project Development at SAGA Unternehmensgruppe, stressed that the strained situation on the Hamburg housing market could only be resolved through sustained new construction. SAGA is utilising various options for this, including the anti-cyclical acquisition of land and turnkey projects, as is the case with this endeavour on Berner Heerweg. Future tenants can look forward to 75 publicly subsidised and thus affordable flats. Mr Klünder also expressed his pleasure at the continued successful collaboration with Richard Ditting GmbH & Co. KG on this construction project.

Nikolaus Ditting, Managing Partner of Richard Ditting GmbH & Co. KG, emphasised the unbroken demand for new flats in Hamburg. Through this construction project, his company, together with SAGA, is helping to offer a perspective to those seeking housing. The project team, consisting of architects, planners, construction workers, and the commissioned trades, is working intensively to ensure that people of all generations can move into attractive new homes in the spring.

Scheduling and construction progress

Construction on the new development project began in early 2025. Further construction work will continue until April or May 2027. The handover of the completed residential buildings to SAGA is planned for this period. The project underlines the continuous commitment of both companies in the field of subsidised housing construction in the Hanseatic city.
