One year after the opening of insolvency proceedings over the assets of Aquinos Bedding Germany GmbH, the company's former factory premises in Jöhstadt/Saxony have been acquired by the Handtmann Group. The property, covering an area of over 23,650 square metres, was previously an extensive production and logistics site, originally built for the manufacture of bed bases under the Schlaraffia brand and continuously expanded.
Lawyer Frauke Heier from the law firm Niering Stock Tömp Rechtsanwälte based in Bochum was appointed as insolvency administrator in these proceedings. Following the cessation of operations by Aquinos Bedding Germany GmbH, the insolvency administrator, in cooperation with external partners, successfully identified a suitable successor company for the Jöhstadt site. Leo-Impact Consulting GmbH, with Mr Gunter von Leoprechting as the lead contact person, and AENGEVELT Immobilien GmbH & Co. KG were involved in this process. The law firm ADVANT Beiten supported the insolvency administrator in implementing the property transaction.
The Handtmann Group is an internationally active family business with a history of over 150 years, employing approximately 4,700 people. Its business areas include light metal casting, system technology, plastics technology, processing, and plant engineering. The acquired property will be used by Handtmann Leichtmetallgießerei Annaberg GmbH, which is based in neighbouring Annaberg-Buchholz/Saxony. This company is regarded as a valued economic partner and a significant employer in the regional economic structure.
Frauke Heier, the insolvency administrator, emphasised that this transaction not only achieved the best possible recovery for creditors. At the same time, it fulfilled the objective of finding a suitable successor company for the business location in Jöhstadt, thereby creating a new perspective for the area.
