The significance of the transport, logistics, and mobility sectors for societal infrastructure was recently highlighted in Kempten as part of the image-building event “Bavaria Moving Together”. In the Rathausplatz (Town Hall Square), visitors had the opportunity not only to observe the world of mobility but also to experience it through interactive elements. The primary goal of the initiative was to make the modernity and appeal of these sectors tangible through authentic insights and practical experiences.
The event was organised by the Bavarian State Ministry of Housing, Building and Transport in collaboration with a multitude of Bavarian mobility and logistics associations, chambers, and other relevant industry stakeholders. Christian Bernreiter, Bavaria’s Minister of Transport, emphasised that transport, passenger traffic, and waste management are indispensable components of daily life in both urban and rural areas. He highlighted that dedicated professionals work daily to ensure that people and goods reliably reach their destinations and that towns and communities remain supplied and clean. The Minister further explained that targeted image-building activities aim to strengthen the sector as an attractive field of work and increasingly attract young people and women to the diverse career opportunities.
Interactive Experiences and Career Orientation
Manuel Knoll, Minister of State for Youth and Democracy, remarked that it is necessary to make an industry tangible to inspire young people. In Kempten, this was achieved by allowing them to experience modern, innovative, and responsible professions in mobility and logistics themselves in a bus, truck, or simulator. Christian Schoch, Mayor of Kempten, was impressed by the atmosphere in the city centre and the direct presence of the industry among the public, which illustrated the everyday nature of mobility and logistics.
A central attraction of the event was modern driving simulators with 3D glasses, which allowed interested individuals to virtually steer buses, trucks, or forklifts, even without a corresponding driving licence. In addition, taster driving lessons in real buses and trucks were offered, accompanied by experienced driving instructors. A stage programme complemented the practical experiences with in-depth insights into the working world. Authentic testimonials from apprentices and skilled workers, as well as direct opportunities for exchange at information stands, helped to vividly convey the career prospects of the logistics and mobility sector.
A comprehensive family programme was also provided for younger visitors, playfully introducing children to the world of mobility. Besides a “Rennmäuse-Parkour” (racing mouse obstacle course), a bouncy castle provided entertainment. The event was supplemented by live music and stage shows, transforming the Rathausplatz into a meeting point for all generations.
