The renowned denim and apparel brand Madewell is opening a new store at 1 Rockefeller Plaza, a Tishman Speyer property, the landlord announced on Thursday. The retailer has signed a lease for 7,340 square feet (approx. 682 square metres) at the Midtown landmark. The new space is scheduled to open in 2027.
The asking rent and lease term were not publicly disclosed. According to CBRE data, the average asking rent for retail space in the Midtown Plaza District was US$2,540 per square foot in the second quarter of 2026.
Strategic Expansion in an Iconic Location
EB Kelly, Senior Managing Director at Tishman Speyer and Head of Rockefeller Center, commented on the new establishment: “Rockefeller Center continues to attract brands that shape culture and consumer behaviour worldwide. Madewell’s decision to establish a presence here underscores the Center’s unique ability to combine New York’s iconic identity with modern cultural relevance.”
Newmark brokered the deal for Madewell, while Tishman Speyer was represented internally by Lucy Phillips. Newmark did not immediately respond to a request for comment. The new Madewell store at Rockefeller Center will be the brand’s eighth location in New York City.
Garrett Putney, Senior Vice President of Retail at Madewell, highlighted the significance of the location: “We are excited to be part of Rockefeller Center, one of New York’s most iconic retail destinations. This store represents a significant milestone for Madewell and provides us with the opportunity to bring our full brand experience to life in a space that reflects our commitment to quality, style, and community.”
