MEININGER Hotels is expanding its portfolio by entering the Spanish market. The MEININGER Hotel Barcelona Fira Gran Via, whose planning was announced in 2024, will welcome guests from 25 June 2026. The opening marks the hotel group's first presence on the Iberian Peninsula, a region considered a strategic focus within the company's European expansion strategy.

The property is housed in a former office building spanning over 6,000 square metres. It offers 162 rooms with over 500 beds, as well as 30 parking spaces. The hotel's concept integrates the comfort of a classic hotel with elements of a hostel environment. The facilities exclusively include private rooms, ranging from double to four-bed rooms, to appeal to various guest groups such as business travellers, families, or individual tourists.

The hotel's public areas include a lounge, three terraces, a bar, and a "Heat & Eat" zone, allowing guests to prepare meals. The project also considers sustainability aspects: the building is BREEAM-certified, an international standard for sustainable construction. Operations are run entirely on green electricity from a local provider. Energy efficiency is supported by the use of modern insulation materials, solar panels, and water-saving measures, including flow restrictors on taps.

The hotel's location opposite Fira Gran Via, one of Europe's leading exhibition and congress centres, offers direct access to international events. The hotel is situated in a significant economic and urban development area of Barcelona. The city centre and El Prat Airport are also easily accessible. Ajit Menon, CEO of MEININGER Hotels, emphasised that Barcelona, as a globally popular travel destination for business and leisure travellers, provides the ideal starting point for establishing the hybrid concept in Spain.

The opening in Barcelona is the company's first after a three-year hiatus and expands its portfolio to 37 hotels. Further locations are already under construction or planned in Europe, including a MEININGER Hotel in Madrid for 2027. International projects include Edinburgh and Tel Aviv (2026), Strasbourg (2027), and Porto and Dublin (2028), underscoring the company's continued expansion.
