The recently laid foundation stone officially marked the start of construction for the new building of the Wilhelmshagen Volunteer Fire Brigade in Fürstenwalder Allee in the Rahnsdorf district. Berliner Immobilienmanagement GmbH (BIM) is realising this project on behalf of the State of Berlin to construct a fire station that meets current technical, structural, and functional requirements. The project equally considers criteria for occupational health and safety as well as aspects of sustainability.
A modern fire station will be built on a plot of approximately 4,400 square metres by the end of 2027. This will include five vehicle bays, contemporary changing rooms and communal areas, and a dedicated first-responder section. The total investment volume for the new build amounts to around EUR 13 million. The financing for this project is guaranteed by funds from the special assets for infrastructure of the Growing City. The new location in Rahnsdorf replaces the previous one, situated in Frankenbergstraße, which no longer meets current requirements.
The building's facade will feature timber cladding, ensuring harmonious integration into the green surroundings of the site. With this new fire station, the Wilhelmshagen Volunteer Fire Brigade will receive a future-proof infrastructure that will stabilise civil protection in southeast Berlin in the long term.
Focus on Functionality and Sustainability
The planning for the new build integrates heightened requirements for the safety of public buildings. For the occupational health and safety of emergency personnel, a black-white separation system and an exhaust extraction system are provided in the vehicle bay. Regarding sustainable equipment, a photovoltaic system will be installed on the technically usable roof areas, and heating will be supplied by four heat pumps. The building will be realised as a modular construction, based on the standard building programme for Berlin's volunteer fire brigades.
Continuation of the Special Renovation Programme
The new build in Wilhelmshagen represents the sixth replacement new build within the framework of the special renovation programme for the volunteer fire brigades of the State of Berlin. Five replacement new builds have already been completed in recent years. Christian Hochgrebe, State Secretary for Internal Affairs at the Senate Department for Internal Affairs and Sport, emphasised that in Wilhelmshagen, the special renovation programme for the volunteer fire brigades of the State of Berlin is being continued, and the backlog of renovations at the Berlin Fire Brigade is being further reduced. He highlighted the importance of the modern building as an investment in the safety of local people and underscored the support for the voluntary commitment of the comrades by creating optimal conditions, also for attracting new members for the Volunteer Fire Brigade and the Youth Fire Brigade. Christian Hochgrebe also referred to the special location of the Wilhelmshagen Volunteer Fire Brigade with its own deployment area, surrounded by forests and waters, and its role as a central pillar of the security infrastructure, for which a total of around EUR 70 million will be invested through the special renovation programme. Prof. Dr. Karsten Homrighausen, State Fire Director of the Berlin Fire Brigade, highlighted the laying of the foundation stone as an important sign for the future of voluntary work and security in southeast Berlin. He thanked all involved for making the project possible. Tatjana Adams, a member of the Management Board of BIM Berliner Immobilienmanagement GmbH, stated that the new build will create modern and future-proof conditions for the Wilhelmshagen Volunteer Fire Brigade, combining functionality, sustainability, and high safety standards with contemporary working conditions.

In the coming years, in addition to the Wilhelmshagen Volunteer Fire Brigade, further replacement new builds for the Müggelheim and Mahlsdorf Volunteer Fire Brigades will be realised.
