A
judge denied bond for Oren and Alon Alexander on Thursday, ruling they are flight risks and a danger to the community. The twins, one a former luxury broker and the other an executive at their family's cybersecurity firm, appeared in court after being arrested on sexual assault charges. They were held overnight at Miami's TGK Correction & Rehabilitation Center.
Oren pleaded with the judge to allow him out, citing his wife's impending birth of their first child. However, the judge was unmoved and granted Oren bond on two state charges but not on the third, more serious one. Alon was denied bond on his state charge altogether.
Prosecutors characterized the Alexanders as a "significant danger" due to the nature of the alleged attacks and flight risks due to their wealth, resources, and international connections. They also expressed concern that Oren had an Israeli passport, although his attorney claimed he only has an American one.
The judge ordered no bond on one case and assigned a $25,000 bond for the other two, with conditions including wearing an ankle monitor under Level 3 house arrest and surrendering his passport and travel documents. The twins will be back in court Friday to face first-degree felony charges.
Their father, Shlomy, and mother, Orly, were present in the courtroom, as was their older brother Tal, who is also facing federal sex trafficking charges. Federal authorities arrested the brothers on Wednesday morning, charging them with operating a "long-running sex trafficking scheme" that allegedly involved raping dozens of women over at least a decade.
The U.S. attorney for the Southern District of New York emphasized that they were not acting alone and that his office is continuing to investigate their activity. The twins' attorney declined to comment on the case.
