eal estate developer Thomas O'Brien is joining the mayoral race in Boston, sources confirm. He will announce his campaign next week and is the head of HYM Investment Group, which has developed several prominent projects in the city, including One Congress, Suffolk Downs, and Boston Landing.
O'Brien's background includes a degree from Brown University and Suffolk University Law School, as well as service on various boards such as The Anti-Defamation League of New England and The Rose Kennedy Greenway Conservancy. He joins incumbent Mayor Michelle Wu and Josh Kraft in the mayoral race.
Wu, who was first elected to the Boston City Council in 2013, is expected to kick off her reelection campaign early next month. She has a strong track record as mayor, having taken office in November 2021 after serving as council president from 2016-2018. Kraft, son of New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft, has also entered the race and has criticized Wu's spending on various projects, including bike lanes and outdoor dining restrictions.
