The agent allegedly offered a rental home in Glendale with a rent more than 50% higher than pre-fire prices.

California Gov. Gavin Newsom has extended emergency orders prohibiting price hikes over 10% in Los Angeles County through March 8, 2025. "In natural disasters, we should help our neighbors, not profit from their pain," Bonta said. The Department of Justice is actively investigating and prosecuting price gouging, sending over 650 warning letters to hotels and landlords accused of the practice.

Bonta warned that violators face up to one-year imprisonment or a $10,000 fine. Those found guilty are also subject to civil enforcement actions, including penalties and mandatory restitution. Anyone who believes they've been victimized by price gouging can report it to their local authorities or the Attorney General at oag.ca.gov/LAfires.
