n the Austin region, Charles Heimsath was a revered authority on real estate, whose expertise and insights were sought by developers, builders, city leaders, and civic groups alike. For decades, he tracked the area's residential and commercial markets with precision, providing trusted data and keen analysis that informed decision-making across various sectors, including housing, retail, hotels, offices, and mixed-use developments.
As president of Capitol Market Research, Heimsath left an indelible mark on Austin's civic landscape. His generosity of time and expertise benefited organizations such as the Downtown Austin Alliance, Urban Land Institute, and city task forces. A board member of the Central Texas Regional Mobility Authority for years, he was known for his incisive questions and insightful comments that shed light on complex issues.
"He loved Austin and was always willing to share his time and expertise to help our region address its challenges," said Terry Mitchell, a longtime friend and client. "He served on countless committees, always ready to lend his support." David Armbrust, an Austin land use attorney, praised Heimsath's market analysis as "spot on" and noted that his insights were eagerly anticipated by the real estate industry.
A devoted family man, Heimsath was married to Christy for over 40 years. His son Charlie remembered him as a loving father, husband, grandfather, and leader who inspired many with his faith, character, and generosity. Friends described him as a man of impeccable integrity, always truthful and trustworthy.
Heimsath's legacy extends beyond his professional accomplishments. His commitment to faith guided his work and relationships, motivating him to serve others, love unconditionally, and lift people up. As he navigated his final battle with cancer, friends and family marveled at his resilience and courage. Heimsath passed away on March 10, leaving behind a city that will deeply miss his expertise, wisdom, and kindness.
A celebration of his life is set for Saturday at Covenant Presbyterian Church.
