n a Manhattan real estate coup, Claire Danes and her husband Hugh Dancy have sold their West Village townhouse for $9.9 million, a tidy profit of $150,000 above the asking price.
The 45-year-old actress, known for her intense portrayal of Carrie Mathison in Showtime's "Homeland," has called Manhattan home since childhood. Alongside her British actor husband, Danes transformed the Greek Revival-style townhouse into a sleek oasis during their eight-year tenure.
Built in the 1880s, the property boasts four bedrooms and 4.5 bathrooms across its nearly 3,900 square feet. The couple's renovation, spearheaded by Joan Krevlin of BKSK Architects, infused the space with a harmonious blend of historic charm and modern sophistication.
A standout feature is the kitchen, relocated from the front to the rear, where floor-to-ceiling glass walls and skylights flood the room with natural light. The result is an inviting interior that seamlessly integrates vibrant cherry-red accents, restored fireplaces, and a spacious living area that spills onto a lush patio.
Additional highlights include a discreet home office, a wet bar, and a rooftop terrace boasting an outdoor kitchen, pizza oven, and breathtaking views of Lower Manhattan.
The sale comes as the high-end Manhattan real estate market experiences a modest uptick. According to Miller Samuel, luxury sales rose 3.7% in the fourth quarter compared to the prior year, while Compass reports a 13.5% surge in downtown townhouse transactions over the same period.
Danes and Dancy's decision to sell stems from their growing family needs. The couple, who share three children, sought a larger home to accommodate their brood and visiting relatives. Still, Danes remains deeply rooted in her hometown, with no plans to abandon her Manhattan roots.
The sale was handled by Tamer Howard of the Corcoran Group for the sellers and Marie-Claire Gladstone for the buyer, whose identity remains undisclosed. As Danes continues to shine on screen – currently filming HBO's "The Applebaum Curse" – Dancy is set to take the stage in a new production of "Apologia."
