T
he Lyon Estate, a 137-acre compound in Coto de Caza, has hit the market for $125 million. The property features a stunning 21,000-square-foot Georgian-style mansion and luxury amenities designed to cater to jetsetters, car collectors, and equestrians.
Built by William Lyon, a decorated military veteran and prominent homebuilder, in 1986, the estate boasts an impressive array of features. "It checks every box," says Josh Altman of Douglas Elliman, one of the lead agents marketing the listing. The main house has eight bedrooms, 11 bathrooms, and formal living spaces with coffered ceilings, intricate crown moldings, and ornate light fixtures.
A highlight of the property is its resort-style pool and spa, complete with a dry sauna and two bathrooms in the pool house. A championship-size tennis court is also on site. The guest houses offer comfortable accommodations for visitors, with one featuring two bedrooms and a full kitchen, while the others have single bedrooms and kitchenettes.
One of the property's "game-changers" is its helicopter landing pad, which allows owners to travel quickly and privately. "You can fly your private jet into John Wayne, get in your helicopter, and five minutes later you're at your front door," says Altman. The car museum showcases classic models from Lyon's prized collection and features a professional-grade auto shop.
Equestrian facilities include a 10-stall barn and riding arena, while the property also boasts two lakes for irrigation, a scenic pond, a greenhouse, a brick-clad wine cellar, and a 41-acre orange orchard. Preapproved plans are in place for a 64-acre development of 25 homes in a new gated enclave at the southern end of the property.
The co-listing agents are Jon Grauman and Zach Goldsmith of The Agency, along with Matt Altman and Doug Skoro of Douglas Elliman. Gen. Lyon's eponymous homebuilding company built over 100,000 homes during his career before merging with Taylor Morrison in 2020.
