A
new workforce housing development is coming to Southeast Austin, with 341 apartments planned for the area. The Preakness Apartments, a partnership between NRP Group and the Housing Authority of Travis County, will offer half its units at below-market rates. Located at East Slaughter Lane and Capitol View Drive, the project aims to address the city's housing affordability crisis while contributing to Southeast Austin's growth.
The development will provide one- and two-bedroom apartments, with 69 units for residents earning up to 60% of the area's median income and 102 units for those earning up to 80%. The remaining 170 units will be market rate. This affordable housing option is designed for middle-income residents who may struggle to find housing in Austin.
NRP Group has a history of developing affordable housing projects in Austin, including another Southeast Austin project underway at Ross Road. Developers are transforming the area with residential, mixed-use, and industrial projects, including Presidium's $4B redevelopment in East Austin and Stream Realty's high-end office project.
