T
he Hedges Inn in East Hampton has changed hands, with Andrew and Sarah Wetenhall acquiring the property at 74 James Lane. The purchase was made by the part-time local residents, who also own the Colony Hotel in Palm Beach, Florida. The Cumming family sold the inn for an undisclosed price, ending speculation that it would become a private club like Zero Bond.
The Wetenhalls' ownership is seen as a relief to locals, who were concerned about the potential for a private club taking over the historic inn. East Hampton mayor John Cumming expressed confidence in the new owners, stating they will preserve the property's history while meeting the needs of both locals and travelers.
Under their stewardship, The Hedges Inn plans to offer a three-meal restaurant, a nod to its past as a hub for delicious breakfasts. Instead of wild nights, the inn will host trivia nights, which are expected to be a hit with guests. Minor renovations will take place before Memorial Day, followed by a summer season closure for more extensive updates to guest rooms and common areas.
