pendoor's Hidden Gems Report Reveals America's Most Underrated Neighborhoods

In a bid to uncover the country's most overlooked yet desirable neighborhoods, Opendoor has released its list of "hidden gems" across the United States. These communities, often flying under the radar, boast an attractive mix of affordability and accessibility that makes them a haven for homebuyers.

To identify these hidden gems, Opendoor analyzed ZIP codes where new listings surged on their platform between January 2024 and November 2024. The common thread among these areas is a significant increase in available inventory, creating a more buyer-friendly environment.

According to Nick Boniakowski, Head of Agent Partnerships at Opendoor, "These neighborhoods are fast-developing, with a high rate of new listings that's welcome news for buyers." He notes that this trend may indicate more affordable options and reduced competition in these areas.

Topping the list is Harrah, Oklahoma (ZIP code 73045), situated just 25 miles from downtown Oklahoma City. With a median property value of $202,000 and a homeownership rate of 71.5% in 2022, Harrah offers an attractive blend of affordability and stability. The average home value has increased by 2.4% over the past year, making it an appealing option for buyers.

Other notable hidden gems include Corcoran, Minnesota (ZIP code 55374), a suburb just 20 miles from downtown Minneapolis; Avon Park, Florida (33825); Salem, Utah (84653); and Wickliffe, Ohio (44092). These communities offer a mix of rural charm and proximity to major metros, making them attractive options for those seeking a more relaxed pace of life without sacrificing access to amenities.

As Boniakowski observes, "The overall idea of hidden gems is that these are areas where there might be more opportunity, more access to homes." By uncovering these underrated neighborhoods, Opendoor aims to provide homebuyers with valuable insights and opportunities for a smoother, less competitive buying experience.
