A
real estate agent's 2019 Kia Sportage was stolen during an open house in Adelanto, California. The San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department is investigating and seeking public assistance. The vehicle lacked a crucial software update designed to prevent thefts targeting Kia and Hyundai models.
Real estate agent Tailor Titus reported her blue Kia missing after just 21 minutes on Sunday afternoon. She believes the thieves were professionals who targeted her car due to its vulnerability, inspired by the "Kia Challenge" trend on TikTok. Security camera footage is being reviewed as part of the investigation.
Titus' vehicle was parked in a cul-de-sac near Juniper Street, and she has asked neighbors for security footage. The Kia sports a California license plate No. 8WXZ024 and features her real estate business information on the back window. Two sentimental items were stolen from the car: photos of her late friend Elaine Macdonald and a necklace.
The San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department had previously warned residents about a rise in vehicle thefts, particularly targeting Kia and Hyundai cars. They advised owners to update their software and check for recalls, as well as take additional security measures such as locking their vehicles and installing smart car alarms.
Anyone with information about the missing Kia is encouraged to contact the Victor Valley Sheriff's Station or provide anonymous tips through the We-Tip hotline.
