A
Floral Park real estate lawyer, Terrance Dougherty, 36, of Oyster Bay, is accused of embezzling over $1.2 million from his clients' escrow accounts to fund a lavish lifestyle. According to the Nassau District Attorney's office, Dougherty used client funds for adult entertainment clubs, expensive restaurants, and high-end hotels between March 2021 and November 2024.

Dougherty pleaded not guilty on Wednesday to five counts of grand larceny and one count of scheme to defraud in Nassau District Court. He was released on his own recognizance and ordered by Judge Veronica Renta Irwin to surrender his passport, preventing him from leaving the country.

District Attorney Anne Donnelly stated that Dougherty "shamelessly embezzled" funds from dozens of clients who trusted him with their property sales and purchases. Prosecutors said that just $5.35 remained in his attorney trust account by November 29, 2024, after he closed his real estate practice in August 2024.

Those who believe they may have been victims of Dougherty's actions are urged to contact the authorities at (516) 571-3505. If convicted, Dougherty faces up to 5 to 15 years in prison and is due back in court on May 8.
