Former NFL Star Jarryd Hayne's Financial Downfall Revealed

Jarryd Hayne's financial empire shrinks further, a far cry from his NRL glory days.

J
arryd Hayne's property empire, once a symbol of his NRL stardom, continues to shrink. The former league star has sold another piece of the puzzle, a 16th-floor Koi apartment in Parramatta, for $690,000.

This sale marks the latest chapter in Hayne's gradual divestment of his once-lucrative property portfolio, which peaked at around $5 million. The Parramatta unit was one of two apartments he bought off the plan in 2013 while playing for the Eels. It had been listed previously in 2021 with a potential rental return of $760 per week.

Hayne's property empire began to unravel in 2015, when he sold his first Sydney home after quitting the NRL to pursue an American football dream. He made a tidy profit on the sale of a two-storey terrace in St Peters for $995,000, having bought it in 2007 for $527,500.

Over the years, Hayne has continued to sell off his properties, including a Paddington terrace he renovated and sold for $2.85 million in 2015, and a Darlinghurst investment terrace that fetched $2.2 million in 2019. His most recent sale brings his property portfolio down to just one remaining asset: a Central Coast home occupied by his mother.

Hayne's decision to sell comes as he attempts a comeback in the lower tiers of Rugby League with the Wentworthville Magpies, following a stint in prison for a sexual assault conviction that was later overturned on appeal.
