Former Real Estate Agent Robert A. Miller Passes Away

Robert Anthony Miller, retired real estate agent and Loyola lacrosse captain, dies at Pickersgill Retirement Community.

R
obert Anthony Miller, a retired residential real estate agent and former lacrosse captain at Loyola University Maryland, passed away on November 10 due to heart disease at the Pickersgill Retirement Community in Towson. Born in Baltimore, he was raised on Rossiter Avenue by his parents, Henry J. Miller, an insurance broker, and Marie Hohman, a Mercy Hospital admitting worker.

Miller attended St. Mary of the Assumption School and graduated from Loyola Blakefield in 1946, where he served as sophomore class president and participated in basketball, tennis, and football. He earned a degree in biochemistry at Loyola University Maryland in 1949, captaining the lacrosse team along the way.

After college, Miller worked at Eddie Jacob's haberdashery in downtown Baltimore, developing a taste for fine clothing that would last a lifetime. He never owned a pair of blue jeans. Miller served in the Army, training in lab work and conducting malaria research in Panama before joining his high school friend Jim O'Conor at O'Connor and Flynn Real Estate.

As a respected mentor, Miller shaped the careers of many sales staff members during his nearly 20-year tenure as a partner at the real estate firm. He retired to focus on his hobbies, including hunting and golfing. Miller was an avid sports fan, holding Baltimore Colts season tickets for years and cheering on the Orioles, Clippers, and Bullets.

Miller is survived by two daughters, Mary Carol Byers of Sparks and Anne Callahan of The Villages, Florida; a sister, Doris Jean Miller; five step-grandchildren; and eight step-great-grandchildren. His wife, Carol Barry, passed away in 2008, and their son, Robert "Rob" A. Miller Jr., died at age 14 in 1971.
