S
hohei Ohtani and his agent Nez Balelo are facing a lawsuit over their involvement in a luxury real estate project on Hawaii's Big Island. The suit was filed by Kevin J. Hayes Sr., the developer of the $240 million Mauna Kea Resort, and Tomoko Matsumoto, a real estate broker who worked on the project. According to reports, Ohtani purchased one of the high-end homes for around $17 million after being asked to get involved due to his celebrity status.
The lawsuit alleges that Balelo repeatedly requested concessions from Hayes and Matsumoto until they were ultimately pushed out of their roles. The plaintiffs are accusing Ohtani and Balelo of tortious interference and unjust enrichment. It's reported that Ohtani plans to use the property for offseason living and preseason training, with plans to build a small hitting and pitching facility on site.
