T
he Kerrville Board of Realtors Fair Housing and Diversity Committee organized a free educational symposium to inform local residents about various aspects of home buying and ownership. A panel of local professionals, including appraisers, insurance agents, and financial advisors, shared their expertise with attendees.
Kerr Central Appraisal District Chief Appraiser Sharon Constantinides explained the appraisal process, highlighting key deadlines for homestead exemptions and the importance of accurate property valuations. She noted that appraisals are based on market value, comparing sales data to similar properties to ensure accuracy within a 95-105% range.
Insurance agent Linda Arreola from Garrett Insurance Agency discussed the significance of homeowner's insurance, citing recent hail damage as an example of its importance. She emphasized that roof condition is a major factor in determining insurance premiums, with older roofs leading to higher costs.
Andrew Gay, an independent financial advisor, stressed the value of seeking professional advice when navigating complex financial decisions related to home ownership. He highlighted his certification from the National Financial Educators Council and offered guidance on how to distinguish between trustworthy sources of information and misleading online content.
The symposium aimed to provide attendees with essential knowledge and insights from local experts in the field. A second event is scheduled for April 26 at the Doyle Community Center, offering another opportunity for residents to learn about home buying and ownership.
