T
he Indiana Borough Council voted to advertise a proposed 2025 Tax Ordinance that sets the tax rate on real estate at 7.522 mills for calendar year 2025. The motion to advertise the ordinance passed unanimously, with Councilman Jonathan Smith seconding it after Council Administration Chair Peter Broad made the initial move.
This tax ordinance accompanies a nearly $6.75 million 2025 budget that was approved two weeks ago and includes a 1-mill tax increase. Breaking down the figures, the ordinance allocates:
* 7.126 mills for general purposes
* 0.148 mills for the Indiana Free Library
* 0.201 mills for the Indiana Fire Association
* 0.047 mills for shade trees in the borough
These allocations total 7.522 mills, a 1-mill increase from the previous year's tax rate.
Additionally, the council tabled a resolution establishing a 2025 Wage & Benefit Schedule for non-bargaining unit employees until their December 3 meeting.
