ashville real estate mogul Bill Freeman has died at 73, and authorities are investigating his death as a possible suicide. Freeman's son, State Rep. Bob Freeman, confirmed his father's passing. Mayor Freddie O'Connell paid tribute to the billionaire, describing him as "a real estate visionary, mayoral candidate, pilot, media magnate, and staunch Democrat."
Freeman was found dead after police responded to a 911 call about a shooting at his home on Sunday evening. A Metro police spokesperson said Freeman's death is being investigated as a suicide. The billionaire co-founded Freeman Webb Co., a multifamily real estate investment and management firm with over 18,000 rental homes across several states.
In addition to his business ventures, Freeman owned two publications: the Nashville Scene and the Nashville Post. He also ran for mayor in 2015 but lost. Many have come forward with kind words about Freeman, including former Mayor Megan Barry and former presidential candidate Al Gore, who praised his commitment to helping others and his dedication to the city of Nashville.
The Tennessee Democratic Party released a statement saying Freeman will be remembered as "a beacon of kindness, wisdom, and a stalwart community leader." The party's statement added that his legacy of compassion and integrity will forever inspire them.
