A
recent real estate listing near Chastain Park caught attention with its promise to sell a piece of Kenny Rogers' history. The interior photos showcased walls lined with platinum records and shelves displaying Grammy Awards. The property, which sold quickly for $2.475 million, featured Rogers' signature design style, including faux old-world European finishes and oversized furnishings.
Kenny Rogers' music career spanned seven decades, selling over 120 million records worldwide. He owned several opulent estates, including a Bel-Air mansion in Los Angeles that he purchased in the 1970s for $5.8 million. The property, dubbed "Lionsgate," was later sold for $46.25 million.
Rogers eventually settled in Atlanta's Buckhead neighborhood, where he met his fifth wife, Wanda Miller, at a local restaurant. They married in 1997 and spent the next 22 years together in various homes around Buckhead. Rogers renovated an Italianate home on Valley Road to include international flavors, labeling his style as "high-end eclectic."
In 2002, Rogers purchased a six-bedroom mansion on Garmon Road for $2.75 million and transformed it into a French castle with themed suites inspired by Asian, Safari, and Mediterranean influences. He collaborated with interior designer Jim Weinberg to create Kenji Design Studios, which had a storefront on Huff Road.
Rogers' design firm took on several high-profile projects, including a speculative renovation for a 15,000-square-foot residence on West Paces Ferry Road. They also worked on the Trump Tower project in Atlanta, although it was never built due to the Great Recession. Rogers' plans for an amusement park called Kennyland were also never realized.
Despite his mixed success outside of music, Kenny Rogers left a lasting impact on the entertainment world. His final performance was a duet with Dolly Parton at his farewell concert in Nashville in 2017. He passed away in 2020 surrounded by his family and was laid to rest in historic Oakland Cemetery, where he had purchased a plot next to other famous Atlantans.
