KR Expands Real Estate Footprint in Japan Through New Joint Venture with Weave Living. The venture, "Weave Living Japan Residential Venture I," aims to manage a portfolio of over 3,000 residential units across Japan. Initially seeded with 11 properties in Tokyo, totaling 439 units, the joint venture will invest in both new and existing properties, focusing on Tokyo before expanding into Osaka.
This partnership builds on KKR's previous collaboration with Weave Living in South Korea and leverages Weave Living's expertise in vertically integrated management and digital-first approach to innovate Japan's rental housing market. KKR is investing through Asia Real Estate Partners, marking its latest real estate venture in Japan.
KKR's real estate portfolio in Japan includes KJR Management, Hyatt Regency Tokyo, Four Points Flex by Sheraton with Marriott, a multifamily property portfolio in Tokyo, and office assets across the country. David Cheong, Managing Director at KKR, stated that the partnership extends their relationship with Weave Living into Japan, a key market for KKR's real estate strategy.
Sachin Doshi, Founder of Weave Living, expressed excitement about working with KKR again following their successful collaboration in South Korea. This joint venture comes on the heels of KKR leading a $370 million growth investment in Lighthouse, a commercial intelligence platform for the travel and hospitality industry.
