Lakeland Couple Transforms Office Building into Dream Home on Lake Morton

The O'Tooles have transformed the building into their dream home, with a 1,000-foot ground level apartment and two upper floors available.

A
historic building overlooking Lake Morton in Lakeland is being transformed into a unique residential condominium. The three-story brick structure at 200 Lake Morton Drive has served as commercial office space for nearly 40 years, but new owners Neal and Gabrielle O'Toole are reimagining it as their dream home and a potential investment opportunity.

The couple purchased the building in June 2022 from the Martin family with plans to downsize and live within walking distance of downtown Lakeland. They were drawn to the property's waterfront location and iconic views, but faced challenges due to leased parking spaces from neighboring properties. Neal O'Toole took a lower offer on the building to convert it into residential space.

The O'Tooles have gutted the building to create their personal home on the second floor, which features custom galleries, floor-to-ceiling French doors, and stunning views of Lake Morton. The ground-level apartment is being rented out temporarily, with plans to turn it into a short-term rental property in the future. The first floor will be sold to interested parties, while the top floor's unique design has left potential buyers torn.

The O'Tooles are working on upgrading the building's amenities, including replacing the aging elevator and installing a wrought-iron fence around the property. They believe the building's one-of-a-kind character and unbeatable views make it an attractive investment opportunity in Lakeland, one of the fastest-growing cities in the country.
