Livermore Falls foreclosed homes to be listed for sale

Sealed bid attempts to sell properties were unsuccessful.

L
IVERMORE FALLS — Selectmen voted to list several town-owned properties with the town's real estate broker at their May 6 meeting. They also agreed to work with the owner of three other properties on a repurchase agreement.

The town has owned 100 Main and 22 Gagnon streets for years, but no sealed bids were submitted when they were put up for sale earlier this year. Selectmen voted unanimously to have Meservier and Associates list these properties as well as four others: 126 Pine Ridge Loop, 12 Cedar St., two lots at 41 Main St., and 18 Millett St.

Town Manager Carrie Castonguay noted that all of these properties had received their final notice and the redemption period has expired. Chair William Kenniston pointed out that sealed bids have been unsuccessful so far, with only a few parcels attracting buyers.

Castonguay asked for permission to work with the owner on a repurchase agreement for three foreclosed properties on Gilbert St., which are owned by one family. One of these properties is occupied. This approach was successful in resolving a previous sewer foreclosure case.

In other business, William Kenniston was reelected as chair and Bruce Peary was elected vice chair after the April 29 election. Ernest Souther returned to the board following his election on April 29. Former Selectman Jim Long was appointed to the Budget Committee and Board of Appeals, while Souther's resignation from the Board of Appeals was accepted. Kenniston and Long volunteered for the Androscoggin County Budget Committee, which has been without representation in the past.
