T
he Hernando County Association of Realtors (HCAR) plays a vital role in promoting and protecting the local real estate industry. As a membership trade organization for real estate professionals, HCAR fosters professional behavior among its members, encourages homeownership, and gives back to the communities it serves.
As part of the National Association of Realtors (NAR), the largest association in the US representing the real estate industry, HCAR has been serving thousands of local real estate professionals and business partners since 1958. The association offers a range of member services, including advocacy efforts, education, leadership, networking, and MLS resources.
"We have a strong presence in Hernando County," said Steve Van Gorden, current president of HCAR and Broker/Owner of SVG Realty LLC. "We set ethical standards for the industry and advocate for policies that support local property ownership." Van Gorden noted that HCAR was instrumental in promoting the Hometown Heroes loan program, which makes housing more affordable for eligible first-time buyers.
Membership in HCAR provides opportunities for self-improvement through continuing education, networking, and career development resources. The association hosts frequent meetings, conferences, workshops, seminars, and webinars to keep members informed about market trends, economic shifts, regulatory changes, and community ventures.
For example, a recent meeting featured a representative from the Florida Realtors Association discussing the current buyer's market and abundant inventory. Another event highlighted a local program supporting veterans' mental and physical health through scuba diving certification options.
Coming soon, HCAR members will organize an Earth Day celebration on April 22nd, including a community cleanup day at Delta Woods Park. "We're proud to give back to the communities we serve," said Van Gorden.
