Long Island attorney convicted in $6M real estate investment scam

Defendant sentenced in $6M real estate scheme targeting over 50 victims from 2020 to 2024.

A
Garden City attorney, Daniel Boldi, was sentenced to four to 12 years in prison for his role in a $6 million embezzlement and real estate fraud scheme. The scheme involved over 50 transactions between September 2020 and January 2024, affecting more than 50 victims including homeowners, lenders, and real estate agents.

Boldi pleaded guilty in October 2024 to charges of second-degree grand larceny and first-degree scheme to defraud. In addition to his prison sentence, he was ordered to repay over $6.2 million to the victims through a civil judgment.

According to Nassau County District Attorney Anne Donnelly, Boldi's actions were a betrayal of trust by someone who was supposed to safeguard his clients' money during the homebuying process. The DA noted that the ripple effects of Boldi's theft are devastating and have left victims with significant financial losses.

The investigation revealed that Boldi embezzled over $4.7 million from his clients, including a couple who retained him to close the sale of their East Meadow home. Instead of sending the funds, Boldi provided them with fake wire transfer confirmations, leading to a "dry closing" and completion of the sale without payment.

Boldi also embezzled $1.15 million through two separate loan thefts by providing fraudulent mortgage and title closing records to a private lender. He spent these funds on personal expenses, including Venmo payments and property investments.
