Long Island home linked to Gilgo Beach murders listed for sale

Long Island home linked to alleged Gilgo Beach serial killer to hit market in 6 months.

A
notorious piece of Long Island history is set to hit the market in six months when the home of alleged Gilgo Beach serial killer Rex Heuermann comes up for sale. The timing coincides with the finalization of his divorce, which will allow his wife and two adult children to move to South Carolina. The dilapidated red ranch house on First Avenue in Massapequa Park has been a magnet for gawkers since Heuermann's arrest last year, accused of killing women between 1996 and 2011.

Heuermann, who has pleaded not guilty, has lived at the home his entire life, roughly half with his family. Investigators have extensively searched the property, tearing up much of it in their search for evidence. Despite its dark past, real estate agents believe the house could be a viable option for buyers willing to overlook its history. One agent suggests it could be a "nice starter home," while another thinks a builder could purchase and renovate the property for around $600,000, then sell it in the low seven-figure range.

Some neighbors are advocating for the village to buy the house, ensuring that no one else can live there indefinitely. In other cases of notorious homes, sellers have employed creative tactics to avoid unwanted attention, such as listing a home at a false address to deter looky-loos.
