Luxury Farmhouse Sold in Hillsborough for Record-Breaking $19 Million

A limited liability company has bought a 7,600-square-foot house in Hillsborough for $18.8 million.

A
7,600-square-foot house remodeled by architect-investor Michael Kao has sold for $18.8 million in upscale Hillsborough. The buyer is LilyPad 2024, a San Jose-based LLC tied to CPA Karen Valladao.

Kao and his investors purchased the 1.1-acre property in 2021 for $6.6 million, then gutted its original 1950 home. The renovation resulted in a modern farmhouse-style residence surrounded by redwood, oak, and olive trees, featuring a swimming pool and spa. The minimalist design incorporates steel, glass, and white oak, with floor-to-ceiling windows and sliding glass doors.

The five-bedroom, seven-bathroom house includes an office, game room, laundry room, gym with sauna, outdoor kitchen, and fire pit. Kao aimed to create a harmonious environment for families who value both indoor and outdoor living spaces.

Broker Keri Nicholas of Parc Agency held the listing, describing it as a rare single-story find that caters to buyers seeking more space for solitude. The buyer was represented by Phil Chen of Christie's International Real Estate Sereno.
